Diffinity Genomics issued patent for their technology "Spatially inhomogenously functionalized porous media and method for use in selective removal of contaminants". The patent was issued June 23, 2015.
The first application of Diffinity Genomics' nucleic acid purification technology is DNA purification. DNA purification techniques are commonly used on PCR fragments, plasmids, and genomic DNA to prepare samples for downstream reactions. For example; after PCR cleanup, DNA can be used for sequencing, cloning by restriction digest, in vitro transcription, or many other applications. Circular plasmid DNA is used frequently in research to grow specific sequences in bacteria and subsequently express those genes in tissue culture. Genomic DNA is used to generate PCR and plasmid DNA samples as well as for forensics and mutation analysis.
Our first product, the Diffinity RapidTip, will remove nucleotides, primers, and primer dimers to purify PCR solution prior to Sanger sequencing. The Diffinity RapidTip2 can also remove the DNA polymerase so the DNA template can be used for Sanger sequencing reactions or in a restriction digest.
